Banyan Community is a Christian Community Development Organization that builds relationships and improves the lives of both youth and adults living in the Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Our programs are divided into three strategies: Develop Youth, Strengthen Families and Create Community.

Banyan has over a decade of experience in providing educational support for youth and families. Banyan functions as a community anchor as it helps families and children access resources and develops community. Academic and developmental asset building programs are provided for youth ages kindergarten through high school; indigenous leadership development is nurtured in the adults connected to Banyan.

Primary Duties:

Primary Responsibilities of the Elementary Program Manager: Manage the Elementary Team and applicable programs.
Elementary Team Management
o Support and lead the elementary educators:
§ Align and develop curriculum and lesson plans according to program outcomes to support student success in developmentally appropriate ways: social emotional learning, life skills, character development, scientific inquiry, reading and math.
§ Deliver high quality afterschool programs: This includes but is not limited to leading instruction times, utilizing responsive classroom techniques to support positive youth behaviors, monitoring homework help, meal service, and coordinating youth transportation home.
§ Plan, implement and evaluate: Elementary Afterschool and Summer Programs, Kid’s Club (Christian Faith-based evening program Thursday nights from January-May), One-Week Long Summer Camp (August), School Release Days, and Field Trips
§ Monitor youth’s academic performance and identify challenge areas.
§ Support youth and parents in choosing higher performing schools
Leadership and Development
o Recruit, develop, and lead a team of part-time staff working in the Elementary Programs
o Intentional staff development of high school and college aged youth
o Strength and growth based evaluation of part time staff (based on program outcomes)
o Scheduling Food Servers, Gym Workers, Program Associates, and Program Assistants
Creating and Maintaining Strong Relationships, Partnerships and Connections
o Advocate for youth’s education with parents, teachers.
o With Elementary Team develop plans for youth and parents to address academic challenge areas.
o In collaboration with Family Advocates help parents access resources in and through their children’s schools
o Work in collaboration with the Program Director to create partnerships with high performing Elementary Schools that support family and community.
o Build relationships with teachers and administration at the schools our youth attend.
o Keep Program Director apprised of developments in programs and families.
o Develop and manage program budgets and track program expenses.
o Supervise assigned staff (Educators, Part Time staff, etc.) and evaluate effectiveness.
o Evaluate program results and prepare regular reports.
o Complete Special projects as assigned.


• Must have a bachelor’s degree: Education (preferred).
• At least 2 years of experience in program management.
• Special consideration for licensed teachers and applicants that are Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Strong interpersonal skills: able to build meaningful trust-based relationships with diverse youth and parents.
• Must be passionate about youth succeeding academically and attending college.
• An active person able to lift and carry 20Ibs up and down stairs, run or swim as part of youth activities.
• Organized and detail oriented; able to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.

Additional Info:

Compensation: This is an exempt full-time, 40 hour, salary position with full benefits. Day and evening hours; some weekends; Healthcare premium (100% of premium is covered by Banyan!), Short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, Simple IRA, Cell Phone reimbursement, employee development.
This position manages the Elementary (K-5) afterschool and summer programs. The hours for this position are closer to 2nd shift hours (11a-7p most days).
